Starting a professional job after graduating can often feel like a big leap into the real world, and it is completely natural to feel nervous on your first day. However, beginning a new job is an exciting time for developing new skills, meeting new people and personal growth.

Originally, Kyriacos Christou joined EDGE Creative as a Market Research Intern, working two days a week and supporting our account managers with competitor analysis, digital auditing and all other aspects of market research. Now, Kyri has become a full-time member of staff as he has been made an Account Manager. Today, he describes what made him want to get into market research, how he felt on his first day and how he has found the last month working full-time.

The beginning

‘Having attended university and studying Psychology, I felt that the research aspect of my course was something that I wanted to continue and pursue a career in. Consumer and market research have always been something that has interested me – I have always been intrigued by what makes a business succeed.

Kyri

I began working with EDGE Creative in July straight out of university. The directors gave me the opportunity to develop my skills and knowledge of the marketing industry as I joined the team as a Market Research Intern. On my first day, I felt a little like a rabbit in the headlights considering I had very little experience in a fast-paced, commercial environment.

The team were immediately welcoming. I was made to feel at home by everyone, who took time out from their own work to answer any questions I had. As I adjusted to my role, I gained valuable experience in conducting research for EDGE’s clients and providing advice on how to improve their services based off my findings.

I also found that although hard work is everything at EDGE Creative, there is always a positive and enjoyable atmosphere in the office.’

Now

‘After a few months of working 2 days a week, I was becoming more efficient at conducting research for our clients. My work was important to ongoing projects, and as such, I was fortunate enough to be offered a full-time position as an Account Manager here.

This role not only allows me to conduct research on behalf of our new and existing clients, but it also allows me to take a leading role in projects; which is something that I thoroughly enjoy doing. I’ve not been in the role for long, so I am looking forward to learning new things and really getting stuck into new projects!’

At EDGE Creative, we are passionate about learning and encouraging new skills through the creative industry. It can be challenging for young people to find these opportunities. Once they have a ‘foot in the door’, they need dedicated time to learn and develop.

We are always looking for talented, innovative and creative individuals who are looking to develop their skillset. If you are interested in joining the team, please email info@edge-creative.com with your CV and covering letter.
