App Development

The global average of time spent on mobiles phones each day is 3 hours 43 minutes per person, as of 2024. In fact, TikTok briefly surpassed Google as the most visited website in the world in 2021 with the amount of people using the application over their browser.

As such, it’s no surprise that having an app is often seen as a great selling point for your business and could be hugely beneficial for your customers. However, building an app from the ground up is certainly no easy task, which is why the help of expert app designers and developers is crucial in bringing your vision to life.

Why apps are important for business

There are several reasons why your business may want to develop an app, whether it functions as a method of direct communication with your customers or provides its own unique services. Perhaps your app could be used for payment processing, key service updates, displaying real-time information, bookings, customer rewards, or customer services – the opportunities are endless!

If you do choose to make an app, you need to make sure that it not only functions correctly, but that it is branded and designed in accordance with the rest of your business, too. Your brand must be conveyed in everything your business produces, and our talented app designers and developers will ensure the final product is functional, effective, and relevant to your business.

HOW EDGE APPROACH APP DEVELOPMENT

  • 01

STEP ONE: UNDERSTAND THE APP REQUIREMENTS

The first and most important step in app design is fully understanding your vision. It’s crucial for us to know your offering, the information you are looking to give or take from your users, and how you wish to display it. We will also identify your primary calls to action and demographic to understand our main priorities when designing the app.

  • 02

STEP TWO: FIGURE OUT YOUR MINIMUM VIABLE PRODUCT

The next step is to work out your minimum viable product. This is the most barebones version of the app that you would be willing to publish: what features are essential, and which could be added in at a later time? We will use this to construct your initial app map and work out how to best optimise your user journey.

  • 03

    STEP THREE: CONSTRUCT A WIREFRAME

Once we know what will be going to market, we will begin wireframing your app. A wireframe is essentially the skeletal layout of your app, highlighting the essential features you wish to include and the main outcomes you want to achieve, but without any of the final touches and functionalities. This will give you a good idea of what the final app will look like without committing to the full, complex development process.

  • 04

    STEP FOUR: CREATE A PROTOTYPE

Next, we will begin working on a prototype. While not quite the finished application, your prototype will be much more detailed than the wireframe and will closely represent the final product, including your branding, buttons, different functionalities, and more. We will be in constant communication throughout the design process, making sure that your vision is reflected in the work we do, and that the app looks and feels exactly how you wanted. Once you’ve given your final feedback and confirmed that you are happy with the final design, your app is ready to be published!

  • 05

STEP FIVE: CONTINUAL TESTING & OPTIMISATION

The work doesn’t stop once your app is live! If you have some features that need to be added after your app has launched, we will get to work developing those as well. Plus, we will want to continually test and optimise your user journey and functionalities to ensure that your users are satisfied and converting wherever possible. There’s no point having an app if it isn’t giving you or your customers what you need from it!
