Today we wish Lego, everyone’s most loved toy building blocks,  a very happy 55th birthday!

Lego is synonymous with childhood and creativity. Millions of people around the world will still be able to remember the first object they constructed, turning imagination into reality using the many different iconic studded shapes.

To celebrate Lego’s birthday we pay homage to the incredible feats the Danish company has achieved and how Lego exemplify culture, entertainment and artistry in everything they do:

Approximately 19 billion Lego elements are produced per year. 2.16 million are moulded every hour – 36,000 every minute.

More than 400 billion Lego bricks have been produced since 1958. There are about 62 Lego bricks per person of the Earth’s population.

Here are a few videos portraying famous people throughout history, a Lego inspired theatrical trailer and an inspired production of observational comedy.

You’ve seen portraits, photos and videos of the biggest and most popular characters in history, but have you ever seen their Lego counterparts?

What do you call a huge movie blockbuster made from Lego? A huge movie blockbuilder… we couldn’t resist!

Here’s Eddie Izzard using the art of Lego and its intrinsic convivial nature to illustrate the finer points of cult classic Star wars.
