The Library of Birmingham opens today and is going to be something to remember. The building itself is a beautiful piece of architecture and is surely going to become an iconic building in Birmingham.

Stereotypically, people relate libraries with gloomy, boring and quiet communal buildings, but this library wipes all that away before you even enter the building. The shape, pattern and feel to this phenomenal building instantly gives a new, modern and colourful vibe. Once inside the building you will find that you are not just surrounded by books and quiet, but by learning, development and an evolution education.

You will be able to access computers to go online or to interact with the courses provided by the library, allowing you to read through a range of material, from tutorials for building a business to refining your C.V.

Needless to say, the huge size of the building highlights the vast collection of books, which stands at over 400,000, a collection where you can delve into the world of almost anything; this library really has got all anyone would need.

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

Each day should be about learning and developing, and in order to do that we all need a multitude of sources for information, to gain objectivity and a sound understanding. This applies to the individual and the society as a whole.

From the dawn of civilization, mankind would not be able to move forward without the cultivation and sharing of knowledge; we salute this magnificent building as a home for all who strive for progress.

Malala Yousafzai, the young lady who was viciously attacked by the Taliban for advocating women’s rights, will be leading the grand opening and will unveil a commemorative plaque in Centenary square today.
